Since entering the blogging world I have been inspired by others’ talent, creativity, and writing skills.  I enjoy the process of discovering who someone is.  After all, a blog only presents a partial picture.   I thought it would be fun to get to know some of my fellow bloggers and asked Kate from the wonderful blog Lazy Kate Creates to be my first interview.

What I think I know about Kate is that she is an amazing spinner and anything but “lazy.”  (From Wiki, “a lazy kate is a device used to hold one or more spools or bobbins in place while the yarn on them is manipulated.”)

Kate is also an amazing knitter and lives somewhere in Narnia.  OK, Maine.

How long have you been knitting? spinning? blogging?

I’ve been knitting for about four years, spinning for 1 1/2 and blogging for about five months.
Who taught you?
My grandmother taught me to knit when I was really small, but I taught myself to knit when I was really stressed out in college.  Looking back, I don’t know what made me decide to knit again.  I’m actually a little puzzled about how that happened.

What’s your favorite thing to knit?
I love to knit mittens.  I like the stick-to-itiveness you need to knit a pair, and they’re more visible to the public than socks.  I also really hate cold hands.

What knitted item are you most proud of making?
My fiddlehead mittens.  They are my masterpiece, so far.  Adrian Bizilia left me a comment saying that she thought the “are gorgeous”.  I’m such a nerd, it made me so so happy!

Where’s the strangest place you have ever knitted?
I smuggled a sock into my college graduation in the waistband of my skirt, under the gown.  I couldn’t bear the idea of sitting there without anything to do for two hours.  The alternate answer to the question would be in a hammock, in Mexico, with wool.

Do you enjoy other hobbies?
I love to cook, almost as much as I love to eat.  I’m always trying a new recipe, technique or ingredient.

What line of work are you in?
I’ve recently started doing web related work for a local antique business.  I love my job, and I’m learning a lot about the world of antiques and collectibles.
Why do you blog?
I blog because I love to read blogs, and thought I had something to contribute.  I love that I can be creative, and also have a record of my creations.  I especially like the community that has so quickly become a part of my daily life.  I didn’t have the internet for a couple of weeks, and I truly missed the sense of community that I have here.

Are you a small town or big city girl?
I am such a small town girl.  The city freaks me out!  I love living out in the woods, driving winding back roads and living in a small town where everyone knows your business.  Well, maybe not the last part. 😉

What’s your favorite chain type restaurant?
Mmmmmm… I’m not really into chain restaurants… But if I’d have to pick one it would be BK.  Burger, fries and a chocolate shake.

What things are unique to where you live?  As in special customs, favorite restaurants, slang, etc.  (I love to find the unique things of an area when I travel.  So much of the US is homogenized – Anywhere USA).
I live in Maine, so tourism is huge here.  We really rely on people from out of state to come here and spend money in the summertime.  I’ve heard that people think that Mainers are really nice, but the truth is that we know how important tourism is, so we have to be courteous.

Favorite candy.
I’m not really a candy fan (if you can believe it!)  But my favorite snack is popcorn.  I love love love it!  My Mister thinks that I’m crazy to love something so simple, but there it is

Your scariest moment?
I was attacked by a dog when I was 8.  It bit my face, and I had to have a reconstructive surgery to remove the scar tissue a year later.  Surprisingly, I’m not afraid of dogs usually.  Most of the time I can relax and enjoy their company.  Actually, when we finally buy a house, the first thing I’m going to do is get a dog!

What helps you when you are in a bad mood?
Carbohydrates.  Potatoes, preferably.

Use one word that best describes yourself.
I’m so bad at that!  I can’t think of a word…..
