I had the opportunity to create two sweater memory quilts, wo years apart. In memory of my client’s mother, she sent me a number of her sweaters. They were plain knit sweaters of various colors. I settled on this throw-sized quilt similar to my extra-large baby clothes quilt. I was able to cut at least 6 squares from every sweater, so 9 or 10 sweaters can work well for a project like this.
She selected a hounds tooth minky for the first one. The second time around, we selected a luxe fleece because it will be used by her father in assisted living and I wanted to make sure the backing could hold up to higher temperatures when washing. Minky and fleece hold up well, but I thought the fleece might hold up better if the blanket was accidentally washed at hotter temperatures.

It’s a beautiful quilt You don’t describe how you joined the sweater quilt top to the fleece backing Dod you tie it or sew it together ?
I machine tack the two layers together at various intersections – just like you might hand tie a quilt.
