Last night my husband and I had a lovely skate. He worked really hard to get the ice rink in before the winter storms hit. Despite the frigid temperatures, it takes a long time to get a few inches of water to freeze. It’s a balance between the cold temperatures, the warm ground and the snow. The snow can create a thermal blanket and water wicks up. But nature cooperated and we have ice!
The kids’ concert band was giving a concert at an inner-city church last night so it was just the two of us. It was a quiet night. I love looking at the house from outside, seeing the lights of the Christmas tree. It looks so peaceful…
Some year my husband will write up the plans for this. It’s simple, but still requires a lot of work. He has a mesh fence around the entire thing to keep the deer out. Last year they poked holes in the liner.
As I’ve shipped out my last order, I closed my Etsy shop until January 6th! I’ve never taken that long of a vacation, but I’m really looking forward to it. It hasn’t started yet, however, as I have 6 blankets to finish before Christmas for local customers. Yep, you heard that right.
It’s amazing what a little night air and quiet ice skate can do for the body and soul.
Now back to sewing.
It looks so pretty Jane! And this year it looks like you might get good, long use out of it. Hope you are doing well!
How beautiful! And I’m glad to hear that the shop is closed for a much deserved vacation – after those six blankets, of course. 🙂
Oh my goodness, an ice rink in your yard! My kids would love that. We get ice on top of the swimming pool occasionally first thing in the morning in winter but ice skating is very much an indoor activity.
Oh so beautiful and peaceful looking – looks like so much fun!
