Vintage Baby Clothes Quilt

I was thrilled to create this special baby clothes memory blanket using vintage clothes! Well, paranoid might describe my feelings as I stared at these adorable clothes that are 28 years old and wondered how I was ever going to cut into them! A grandmother sent me these clothes which belonged to her son. Now he has a son and she wanted me to use these clothes to make a blanket for her grandson’s one-year birthday!

I decided that the blanket should feature one complete outfit to preserve the vintage nature.

There was a lot of work removing buttons (which were stitched on fiercely!) and designing which features to preserve from the outfits.

I backed the blanket with cotton chenille.

There were also two very adorable jackets! The one on the right was a corduroy and I thought it might be a bit heavy for the blanket. I decided to create two keepsake pillows.

I used some of the buttons to make a monogram “O”.

I enjoyed creating these special keepsakes.
