My client asked for a t shirt quilt that could be used at the beach. Since I use a lot of minky and fleece for backings, I had to consider the options. I thought about sweatshirt fleece. I typically use the smooth side out when using this fabric, so it could work at the beach or on the grass for a picnic. I use duck cloth for the back of my oversized beach blanket. Then I decided denim would be a good choice.

Here I used 12 oz denim from Joanns. It’s got a nice weight to it. I had to seam it together to achieve the needed width. I also made a wide border. I prewashed and dried the denim to shrink it. It only shrank a couple inches out of a total of five yards.
