I consider myself blessed to be able to do the work I do and I am proud when my customers return to me. This past year, one of my special customers asked me to create some memory pillows for the relatives of Don Mankiewicz. His shirts were sent to me along with an article in the L.A. Times about his interesting life as a screenwriter who grew up in a “fabled Hollywood family.” What a fascinating man and when the shirts came with three sets of red suspenders, we wanted to have those integrated into the design.
I added piping to the pillows, using a contrast shirt fabric. We debated whether or not to simply clip the suspenders to the bottom of the pillow but decided to cut off the clips and sew the leather straps into the seams.
The effect is a fun representation of a dapper man!
The pillows have finally been delivered to Don’s family members and I am told that they were overwhelmed by them!
To continue with Pillow Palooza, I wanted to share some other pillows I’ve made. This one is a T Shirt Pillow of a beloved horse.
These pillow cases are my basic pillow covers made from button down shirts. A son presented them to his mother. They belonged to his brother, her son, who lost his life by suicide. I received the most beautiful note from the mother who told me what these pillows meant to her.
And these are some basic, piped, home dec pillows that were made to go with the custom window seats I made for friends.
You can check out my pillow page for more information.
How long would it take to do suspender pillows. How much is cost of each pillow to be made?
