I love a challenge! My client sent me a bridesmaid’s dress that she wanted to use in a baby quilt for the bride.

The fabric is somewhat delicate, so I cut squares of two layers: the top and the lining. I included some plain pieces as well as the lace. I took the dress to the fabric store and selected some purple and yellow fabrics which were the colors my client wanted to include.

In keeping with a vintage feel, I cut 4″ squares and used a 12 block x 12 block design. I added a layer of white polar fleece as batting and a lavender minky dot. I quilted the blanket every 3 columns and the three layers held together very well as I sewed. The satin blanket binding is a classic baby blanket finish. I needed just inches more than what was available in one package.

It was a lot of fun to create this baby quilt and I think it will be a wonderful surprise at the bay shower! And what a great way to repurpose a bridesmaid’s dress! You can see pillows I made out of bridesmaid’s dresses here.
